Lentil Burgers

A satisfying way to get your protein and iron. In a medium pot boil three cups of lentils until soft. Optionally add a few slices of fresh ginger. After lentils are cooked and cooled, add sea salt, black pepper, onion jam, Sriracha, yellow curry, sesame oil, one raw egg, a tablespoon of maca powder, two tablespoons of chick pea flour, fresh parsley, and a little paprika. Combine all ingredients, form into patties and fry in butter or coconut oil. Great with ketchup and mustard.

Road Creations

In the past week I slept at a friary on Staten Island, a retreat center in Upstate New York, a sterile hotel in Irvine, and now a vacation cabin in Idyllwild, CA. Travelling can be hard on the body, so when granted the rare gift of a kitchen and a blender, I have been making full use–concocting smoothies and potions to keep me nourished on the way. Here are a couple of my creations:

Cardamom-Banana Blend
a cup or orange juice
1 banana
a tablespoon of whey powder
a tsp of cardamom
-combine all ingredients and set to ‘puree’ or ‘liquify’ in your blender

Grapefruit puree with flava
Four peeled grapefruits
a cup of mango juice
frozen strawberries
frozen peaches
2 tbsp yogurt
2 tbsp pumpkin butter
1 tsp cardamom
-again, combine all ingredients and blend to pulverized.

An Unusual (and delicious) Combination

On a sheet of nori–spread on a little Marmite and add steamed cauliflower, arugula, tzaziki, green salad sprinkle, toasted sesame oil, and sprouted lentils. I know it sounds weird, but trust me it’s good.

DIY Beauty Products

Don’t pay for overpriced beauty products! Be your own apothecary. Save money and save on the chemicals and additives! With just a few simple ingredients: distilled water, sea salt, essential oils, and pure oils such as olive and coconut, you can make all kinds of delightful potions and lotions. I made a refreshing sea salt spray from distilled water, a tablespoon of sea salt, a few drops of lavender oil, and a few drops of rose oil. A few spritzes a day is great for the hair and the skin. Get that ‘beachy’ look without paying for overpriced salon products!
