Kale Chips!

start with a gorgeous head of purple kale. stem it and rinse it, tear the leaves into chip size pieces. spread the pieces out evenly on a cookie sheet (some overlap is fine). sprinkle with walnut oil, nutritional yeast, partially ground flax seeds, and dulse. i let them bake at 300 degrees for 15 minutes, and then left them too cool with the oven open and off. keep an eye on them. you want it crispy but not burnt.
if you don’t inhale the whole pan in one sitting, there is something wrong!

My Contribution…

to Friday night dinner with the family: oh, hijiki how i love thee…let me count the ways…

cooked on a cast iron skillet in a base of walnut oil~

broccoli, hijiki, thin-sliced shitakes seasoned with sea salt, turmeric, and asafoetida; topped with olive oil and my mix of nutritional yeast, ground flax seeds, and dulse. As our friend, J Brizzle would say, it’s gonna be ‘bomb-diggity!’

It’s Chai Season (again)!

It’s getting nippy out there! The perfect time to warm up with spicy tea! Today, I am making Orange Puer Redwood Chai. I started with the Redwood Chai mixture: Orange peel, Carob pods, Cardamom, Ginger, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Star Anise all in whole, dried form. Bring a handful of that to a boil in 20 oz. of water. Then, add a dash of cream, a large pinch of Samovar’s Blood Orange Puer, and let all ingredients continue on a low boil for five or so minutes. Strain and drink! Add sweetener of choice if you so choose, but I find that this mix stands up pretty well on it’s own. Of course, my recipes are mere hints and guidelines. Modify as desired!

Rainbow Stir Fry

Okay, I admit it…I ate it too quickly to take a photo. But, imagine this…greens and purples stir fry mix (purple and green kale, chard, cabbage), orange bell pepper, and peeled and roasted chestnuts. All ingredients sauteed in walnut oil, seasoned with Bragg’s, asafoetida, and turmeric. Topped with fresh sliced avocado and nutritional yeast-ground flax seed mix. All ingredients wrapped up in a nori sheet to savor. yum!

About nori, Paul Pitchford writes, “Very cooling thermal nature…increases yin fluids; diuretic; softens hardened body areas…highest protein content (48% dry weight) and most easily digested of the seaweeds; rich in vitamins A, B1, and niacin…” (Healing With Whole Foods p. 591)

So, wrap it up with nori!
