Golden Milk

Due to the rise in popularity of turmeric as a supplement and medicinal food, you may have noticed that golden milk has become more prevalent as well. Here in the very hip Asheville, you can even find golden milk and golden milk chai available in a number of cafes. Although you can purchase pre-mixed golden milk formulas from various health food stores, it is very simple to make. Here’s how I like to make mine!

Golden Milk

1 cup whole milk (can substitute almond or coconut milk)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
a dash of cinnamon powder
a pinch of cardamom powder
a pinch of ground black pepper
1tsp of ghee or coconut oil

Put all ingredients into a small saucepan and bring to the edge of boiling. Turn heat off just before milk boils. Pour into a mug. Stir well or froth. Can sweeten with a little fresh honey or maple syrup. Top with fresh ground nutmeg to aid in sleep.

As you can see, golden milk is easy to make and the recipe is loose, so feel free to tailor the recipe to suit your tastes. This is a warming, grounding beverage that is perfect for cool evenings. Furthermore, drinking golden milk daily is a delightful way to imbibe the superfood, turmeric, and other nutrient rich accompanying spices.
