The Holy Trinity of Smoothie Making

After spending some serious time in the laboratory, I have come to believe that there are three key ingredients for making any smoothie magically delicious: blueberries, kale, and avocado. Basically, if you have those three, add a little juicy fruit, and some liquid (juice or coconut water), your beverage will be awesome. Plus…

Kale is a great source of calcium, vitamin A, and chlorophyll.
According to Paul Pitchford (Healing with Whole Foods) Avocados are “a natural source of lecithin, a brain food…rich in copper, which aids in red blood cell formation…a nutritious protein source.”
Blueberries are a rich source of phytochemicals and antioxidants, which aid in liver cell renewal.

Here is a simple recipe using the power trio:

1 cup juice or coconut water, 1/2 navel orange, 1/2 avocado, 1 cup blueberries, a fistful of de-stemmed kale, a scoop of hemp protein or whey, a dash of vanilla.

Simple and good.
